Statement of Senator Rodney Ellis on the Resignation of Senator Greg Luna
Senator praises colleague's longstanding commitment to education, public service record

"I was deeply saddened to hear of the resignation of my good friend Gregory Luna from the Texas Senate. His resignation allows him to concentrate on the important things -- regaining his health and spending time with his family. We will miss his leadership in the Senate, but we will always be able to count on his good advice and his friendship."

"Since he joined the Senate in 1993, Greg has been an inexhaustible reservoir of information and perspective on our educational system. He was an invaluable part of all our work on education issues, particularly the comprehensive reforms of Senate Bill 1 in 1995 and, though he was unable to participate in the crafting of this year's teacher pay raise and education funding bill, you can rest assured that the final legislation bears his indelible imprint. Texas parents, teachers and schoolchildren will continue to reap the rewards of his hard work and dedication to making Texas schools the best they can be.

"I wish Greg, his wife Helen, and their family time and leisure to recuperate as they write the next chapter in their lives."
