Memphis Pastor is only living witness who was on the balcony and shared the last hour of Dr. King's life with him
(AUSTIN)—Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) will welcome Pastor Samuel B. Kyles to give the Senate Invocation at 10 AM today in the Senate Chamber.
Pastor Kyles is a nationally recognized resource on the civil rights movement, who helped lead the fight in the South to integrate schools and city buses, and bring down the walls of segregation in restaurants, department stores and workplaces.
Pastor Kyles was an eyewitness to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and is the only living witness who was on the balcony and shared the last hour of Dr. King's life with him. He was featured in the Academy Award nominated HBO documentary: "The Witness: From the Balcony of Room 306." which tells the story of that tragic day.
