MAMMOGRAM NOTIFICATION BILL SENT TO GOVERNOR

AUSTIN — The Texas House of Representatives today approved SB 527 by Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, seeking to ensure that women are notified if they have undergone a mammogram in a facility that fails inspections. The bill now moves to the governor's desk.

"Women need to know if they have undergone a mammogram in a facility that fails state inspection, and they should consult their physician on next steps. These tests are vitally important to ensure early detection and early treatment of breast cancer. If there was a problem with the test, women deserve to have that information," Senator Nelson.

Under current law, mammography facilities must notify patients about a violation if the patients were examined 30 days prior to inspection. However, facilities are often citied for violations that date back more than 30 days prior to the inspection.

SB 527 would rectify this situation. Specifically, it:
