CPS & FOSTER CARE REFORM PASSES SENATE

AUSTIN -- The Texas Senate today approved SB 758 authored by State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, to continue reforms at Child Protective Services and strengthen oversight of the foster care system. The bill now moves to the House for consideration.

"When a child is removed from a dangerous situation, we have an obligation to ensure that we are placing them in a safe, welcoming environment. This legislation expands our efforts to protect abused and neglected children and to ensure that safe, loving foster homes are available," Senator Nelson said.

In addition to filing SB 758, Senator Nelson supported a budget rider of approximately $108 million to reduce caseloads and increase staff and salaries at CPS, along with a $22 million rider to increase reimbursement rates for foster families, which are in the Senate version of the budget. SB 758:

SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, which includes several communities in Tarrant and Denton counties.
