SENATOR NELSON NAMED MVP OF 2005 LEGISLATIVE SESSION
AUSTIN -- Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, has been named "Most Valuable Player" of the recently concluded legislative session for her work on protective services reform, health care and several other issues, according to the online publication, Capitol Inside
"The Texas Senate's most conservative member won every major fight she entered, including some that never materialized simply because potential adversaries knew she was waiting on the other side," wrote publisher Mike Hailey in Capitol Inside's ranking of top legislators currently posted to www.capitolinside.com. "In a session that seemed more like a demolition derby to many high-level players and top committee chairs, she seemed firmly in command on the issues."
The article noted Senator Nelson's efforts to reform the state's protective services, streamline Medicaid services, oppose gambling and preserve local control of education by fighting off a statewide property tax. Capitol Inside also ranked Senator Nelson the "most conservative" member.
"This is one of the highest compliments I have received as a senator, but the honor truly belongs to the people of our community. Fort Worth and our surrounding suburban communities in Tarrant and Denton counties have become a major political force in this state, and we are winning more battles in Austin these days than ever before," Senator Nelson said. "We have more work to do, but we are in a good position to move forward on our priority issues."
SENATOR JANE NELSON, R-LEWISVILLE, represents District 12, which includes parts of Tarrant and Denton counties.
