  1. Monitor and report on the lawsuit styled Thomas v. Bush, currently pending in federal court, or any subsequent lawsuit in which the plaintiffs challenge the Texas legislative districts.
  2. Monitor and report on the lawsuit styled Vera v. Bush, currently pending in federal court or any subsequent lawsuit in which the plaintiffs challenge the Texas congressional districts.
  3. Study and report on the preparations by the U.S. Census Bureau and federal officials for the 2000 census, and if action by Texas is needed, make recommendations.
