Van de Puttes to serve as honorary Fiesta Flambeau Grand Marshals
(San Antonio) — Senator Leticia Van de Putte (District 26, Bexar County) and her husband Pete Van de Putte will serve as Honorary Grand Marshals for the 2014 Fiesta Flambeau Parade in San Antonio on Saturday, April 26.
"Pete and I are so excited to serve as Honorary Grand Marshals for one of San Antonio's most festive and historic annual events," said Senator Van de Putte. "Coming from families with deep San Antonio roots, we both grew up loving this amazing parade. It's the highlight of Fiesta, the best time to be in San Antonio."
Fiesta Flambeau is the United States' largest illuminated night parade, originally inspired in 1948 by the night parades of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The brainchild of Fiesta entrepreneur Reynolds Andricks, it annually attracts more than half a million street spectators every year. It is traditionally led by the University of Texas Longhorn Band and features beautifully lit floats as well as marchers in illuminated costumes. The route passes through Senator Van de Putte's District 26.
Leticia Van de Putte has represented large parts of San Antonio and Bexar County in the Texas Legislature since 1991, first in the House, and since 1999 in the Senate. Pete Van de Putte is the President and CEO of Dixie Flag Company, a family-owned business operating in San Antonio since 1958.
