Senator Zaffirini Welcomes Aggies, Longhorns to Texas Capitol

(AUSTIN) — Today (Feb. 5) Senator Judith Zaffirini, D-Laredo, welcomed Aggies and Longhorns from throughout Texas to the State Capitol for the sixth biennial Orange and Maroon Legislative Day.

Orange and Maroon Day brings together a statewide, grassroots network of alumni and friends of The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University. These alumni work to increase public and legislative support for our state's higher education system, particularly UT and A&M.

"Our state benefits tremendously from its two public national research universities," Senator Zaffirini said. "Because of their commitment to excellence, they are consistently ranked among the best public universities in the nation."

Senator Zaffirini authored Senate Resolution 112, officially recognizing Tuesday as Orange and Maroon Legislative Day at the State Capitol.

Co-Chair of the Joint Oversight Committee on Higher Education Governance, Excellence, and Transparency and a member of the Senate Finance and Higher Education committees, Senator Zaffirini holds B.S., M.A. and PhD degrees from UT-Austin, each with a 3.9 grade-point average.
