SD 12 LIBRARIES RECEIVE MORE THAN $40,000 IN GRANTS
AUSTIN — Two public libraries located in Senate District 12, represented by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, recently received more than $40,000 from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC). The Carrolton and Little Elm Public Libraries were selected to receive grants to help provide Texans with beneficial library services.
"It is hard to overstate the importance of libraries in our communities," said Senator Nelson. "Not only do public libraries help preserve the history of our towns and cities, but they also play a key role in educating both children and adults. As a former teacher, I am very grateful for the hard work of our public libraries, and am proud to see that work recognized with these grants."
TSLAC awarded a $1,279 grant to the Carrollton Public Library to aid their effort to digitize the records of Union Baptist Church, as well as a $42,964 grant to the Little Elm Public Library to expand literacy opportunities at its Children's Center. A full list of the 2014 grant awards is available at TSLAC's website.
SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Denton and Tarrant counties. She is chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee and the highest ranking Republican in the Texas Senate.
