FINDING SENATORS
I am looking for information on Kay Bailey Hutchison or John Cornyn.
Who is my senator?
Determine who your Senator is by filling out the "Who Represents Me?" form on the
Senators Index Page. You will need to provide a street address.
How can I find out about recent legislative action?
The "
Texas Legislature Online" website provides legislative information including bill information, committee information, journals and much more.

CONTACTING SENATORS
How can I e-mail my senator?
E-mail is handled by each Senator's office individually. Those Senators who do accept e-mail will have an e-mail form on their web site (found on the
Senators Index Page). Please
DO NOT contact the website administrator about legislative concerns or attempt to contact your Senator via the web administrator. Such e-mails will not be answered, and cannot be forwarded.
Where can I get a list of all the Senators' e-mail addresses?
There is no such list because not all Senators accept e-mail. Those who do accept e-mail prefer that you use the e-mail form on their web site (found on the
Senators Index Page).
Where can I get a list of all the Senators' mailing addresses and phone numbers?

AUDIO & VIDEO
You will need two basic components: A sound card and RealPlayer software. RealPlayer is available free of charge directly from
Real.com. Follow the instructions for installation included with the download and return to our
Live Video Broadcast site to listen.
I try to listen and/or watch the Live Audio/Video but nothing happens.
Be sure that you have installed RealPlayer on your computer. Once you have this, check that your browser is set to use the RealPlayer application to play RealAudio and RealVideo. Check the instructions that came with your RealPlayer download for more
help.
The hearing I want to access was in TWO or MORE PARTS but I only see one link on the A/V Archives page?
Each link to archived media will play all available parts or "clips" in sequence. Each clip will open individually showing only the length and time for the current clip. When a clip is complete the RealPlayer will load the next clip and begin playing it immediately. If you wish to go to the next clip or previous clip choose "next clip" or "previous clip" from RealPlayer's play menu.
Can I view Senate video broadcasts on my mobile device?
The Legislature does not currently support mobile device access to Legislative Chamber or committee hearing broadcasts at this time, but we are exploring technologies for possible future mobile broadcast access.
After RealPlayer launched I get a message "Requested file not found. The link you followed may be outdated or inaccurate."
First, for live broadcasts, check the broadcast time. Your broadcast may not yet have begun, or may have already concluded. Make sure that you hit "
Refresh" or "
Reload" on your internet browser to see if there is a possible update or link change that may not have been resolved by our cache.
However if the message is also followed by a file name that is something like
file://C:/...(path will vary).../Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5/G1Y38DQV/00002012[1].ram.
Then you most likely are running an outdated and unsupported version of RealPlayer and using an old version Internet Explorer (version 6 or lower). In order to access the Senate media archives you will need to do one of the following:
- Upgrade to the latest version of RealPlayer. Please note that Real does offer a free version of their player which they call their 'basic player'. On the player download page it may be difficult to find the link to the free version of the player but it is normally near the upper right hand corner of the web page.
- Use a different browser such as Firefox which is a free download.
- Right click on the archive links below and select 'Save Target As...' from the menu. Save the file (.ram) to your computer and then open it in RealPlayer.
Please note that CAPITOL and DISTRICT office users should contact the help desk for assistance in upgrading or installing new software.
How do I troubleshoot "Cannot connect to server" errors in RealPlayer?
Which port does the Texas Senate use? What version of RealSystem Server are you running?
The Senate uses port 554 for "RTSP" streaming broadcasts.
RealSystem Server Pro version 9.
What IP do we need to input to allow access to the Senate broadcasts through our firewall?
204.65.64.45
What version of RealPlayer should I be using?
RealPlayer version 9 or greater.
How can I get an audio copy of a Senate meeting?
Senate hearings are available on cassette tape or CD from our Staff Services Office; hearings from before the 80th session are on cassette tape, while all hearings during and beyond the 80th session are on CD. Please call (512) 463-0430 for more information.
Are videotapes also available?
No, Senate Committees are not videotaped. They are encoded directly to Realmedia format. You may view the proceedings any time on our website via RealPlayer.

QTVR CAPITOL TOUR
How do I view the QTVR Capitol Tour?
You will need QuickTime Version 3 system software from Apple's
QuickTime site. Once you have followed the installation instruction included with the download, go to our
QTVR Capitol Tour page to view the tour. This tour is a very large file and may take a long time to download. Because of the high resolution images, the tour is a processor intensive file and we recommend a Pentium or PowerPC with at least 32 MB of RAM to run it properly.
The QTVR Tour seems to load but nothing happens.
You may be running a version of QuickTime older than version 3. Be sure to install version 3.0 or a newer version as available from
Apple's QuickTime web site. If version 3 is already installed, try reinstalling it so your browser will be reset to display the Tour correctly. Check the instructions that came with your download for more help.
