SENATOR WILLIAMS APPOINTED TO STATE PRESERVATION BOARD

AUSTINSenator Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) was recently appointed to the Preservation Board by Lt. Governor David Dewhurst. The Preservation Board has the responsibility of preserving and maintaining the contents and grounds of the State Capitol, the 1857 General Land Office building and other designated buildings, including the restoration of the Governor's Mansion, and the operation of the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.

"I am honored to serve the citizens of Texas and its visitors in this appointment," stated Williams. "Over one and a half million people from all parts of Texas and around the world tour these historic and irreplaceable structures so it's very important we protect the architectural integrity and historical treasures for future generations."

The Texas Capitol is the working seat of Texas Government, and its architectural spaces were returned to their turn-of-the century appearance during the 1992-1995 Capitol Interior Restoration Project. The Capitol Historical Artifact collection numbers over 3,000 pieces with the majority on display and used for their original purpose. The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum interprets the Story of Texas through a variety of educational and hands-on exhibits.
