Estes Named Chairman of Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs
Austin — Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst named State Senator Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls) chairman of the newly created Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
"I am honored by the confidence shown by the Lieutenant Governor in this leadership assignment, and I look forward to continuing my work on these important issues," said Estes.
Estes has previously served as chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Affairs, and Coastal Resources under the authority of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources.
"I appreciate Senator Estes' hard work and leadership in the Texas Senate," said Dewhurst. "Senator Estes' experience as a successful legislator and businessman will be invaluable to the Texas Senate as we face the challenges of this legislative session."
"Texas agriculture contributes $100 billion to the state's economy and provides jobs for about one in seven Texans," said Estes. "There is no question that agriculture is important to our economy and our need for job creation."
In addition to being named Chairman of Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, Estes maintained previous assignments including Vice Chairman of Natural Resources, and member of Business and Commerce, International Relations and Trade, Veterans Affairs and Military Installations, including the subcommittee on Base Realignment and Closure.
Senator Estes represents Senate District 30 covering Archer, Baylor, Clay, Collin (part), Cooke, Denton (part), Grayson, Jack, Montague, Parker, Palo Pinto, Shackelford, Stephens, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger, Wise, and Young counties.
