Senator Estes Begins Fourth Regular Session with 81st Texas Legislature
Austin, - State Senator Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls) begins his fourth Regular Session in Austin with the opening of the 81st Texas Legislature on Tuesday, January 13.
"I remain humbled by the opportunity and privilege to serve the people of Senate District 30 in the Texas State Senate," said Estes. "In this Session, I will be working to reform the practice of eminent domain to protect private property rights, helping homeowners facing foreclosure with stronger consumer protections, and continuing our effort toward more renewable energy to fuel our economy and create jobs."
The 81st Legislature convenes for a 140-day Regular Session that will conclude on June 1. In this time, the members of the Legislature will consider thousands of bills submitted by the 31 members of the Senate and the 150 members of the House.
In addition to the legislation filed by Estes, he noted that the number one task for each legislative session is passing a budget that is balanced and responsible to the taxpayers.
Estes said that while most other state legislatures are facing serious budget deficits, Texas can look toward revenue reserves.
"During the last legislative session, we made the decision to set aside nearly $7 billion in revenue to help bridge the gap if the economy turned sour," added Estes. "This prudent fiscal decision will help us balance a tighter budget without the need for higher taxes."
