Senator Estes joins Governor Perry in appeal to FEMA
Austin - State Senator Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls) joined Governor Rick Perry in appealing to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to reconsider FEMA's denial for federal aid to August 18 flood victims in Wichita County.
In the letter of support for the appeal, Estes writes, "I can personally attest to the severe damage causing personal and economic hardship that resulted from the flooding that began on August 18."
Estes' office has been working closely with Governor Perry's office to file an appeal to FEMA's September 24, 2008, decision that denied a request for federal disaster assistance for Wichita County. Governor Perry sent the official request on October 2, 2008, to FEMA Administrator R. David Paulison in Washington, D.C.
"I am very grateful for the hard work and attention the Governor has given our situation in Wichita Falls, when most eyes of Texas look toward the devastation in Galveston. Our hearts and prayers are with those whose lives and property have been devastated by Hurricane Ike, but we still have vital needs for assistance from natural disasters here in North Texas," added Estes.
