State Senator Craig Estes to be Honored by State Parks Division of Texas Parks and Wildlife
Austin - State Senator Craig Estes (Wichita Falls-R) will be honored by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, State Parks Division at a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30 at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Wichita Falls.
"I am proud to be recognized by the good folks at Texas Parks and Wildlife, but I believe they deserve the recognition for their hard work in maintaining our state parks with limited resources," said Estes.
The State Parks Division of Texas Parks and Wildlife will be honoring Estes for his work to pass House Bill 12 through the Texas Senate securing an additional $180 million for state and local parks.
"Senator Estes played a key role in passing House Bill 12, a landmark piece of legislation that marks a turning point for the State Park system," said Walt Dabney, State Parks Director.
"This bill begins to restore the promise made to the taxpayers to use the proceeds of the state sales tax on sporting goods for the benefit of our parks and natural resources," said Estes. "For too long our parks have been cash starved of the money raised for their purpose, and House Bill 12 rededicates our commitment to these parks."
"Our heritage of rugged individualism is linked to the vast Texas landscape, and these parks offer not just an opportunity for a weekend getaway, but an opportunity to reconnect with our past to understand who we are, and where we came from," added Estes.
