El Paso Stand With Texas Women event postponed due to pending Senate action
AUSTIN, July 11 — The Texas Senate will take up H.B. 2, the House version of the anti-abortion bill, beginning at 2 p.m. Friday. As a result, the Senators scheduled to appear in El Paso as part of the Stand With Texas Women bus tour will not be able to attend, and the event has been postponed until further notice.
Members of the Senate Democratic Caucus, including Senator José Rodríguez, have filed a number of bills that would address critical women's health issues — including reducing abortion — without placing an undue burden on women's right to access legal and safe abortion services.
In addition, Texas House members, including El Paso representatives, filed a number of amendments to H.B. 2 that would have enhanced health services for women. None of those amendments were accepted.
