Van de Putte grateful for VA Hotline support

AUSTIN — Today, Texas Veterans received good news from executive and legislative officials that Texas stands ready to provide them immediate relief from horrendous VA wait times and complicated bureaucracy.

State Senator Leticia Van de Putte, Chair of the Texas Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs & Military Installations, issued the following statement:

"I am pleased that Governor Perry is supporting my recommendation that Texas create a Veteran Hotline whereby our Texas Strike Force teams can help veterans navigate the complicated VA system and provide us with real time alerts. The Strike Force Team Hotline will provide Texas veterans immediate assistance without requiring federal approval.

"Getting our Texas veterans the health services they need and have earned is of utmost importance, so I am very grateful to the providers who have stepped up to be ready to serve them. I urge Congress to act swiftly so that these providers who are in the ready can care for our veterans.

"But I remind all that the Texas provider plan is only a short-term fix to a long-standing problem. We must work together towards a long-term solution that will honorably care for future generations of veterans and their families. It is unacceptable that it took a whistleblower and the deaths of veterans to address such a basic need as health care. We must learn from these grave mistakes and honor the memory of these warriors we have lost not by the hand of our enemies, but through our own neglect."
