Van de Putte Honors Texas Veterans on Memorial Day
(Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio) — As Texans reflect this Memorial Day on those veterans who gave their lives to protect our freedoms, state Senator Leticia Van de Putte (District 26, Bexar County, and Chair of the Veteran Affairs & Military Installations Committee) released the following statement after participating in the Memorial Day ceremonies at Ft. Sam Houston:
"Memorial Day is a time for reflection, to think about what it means to be an American and what it means to serve. Here's something I hope everyone will reflect on: Memorial Day is not just about our past. It's about our present.
"We honor those who gave their lives decades ago, in places like Kuwait, Vietnam, Korea, Germany and Japan, in the fight for Texas independence and in conflicts going all the way back to 1775, and those brave Texans who are still giving their lives to protect our freedom right now, today, around the world.
"Let us today say a prayer of thanks for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. And when Memorial Day is over, let us rededicate ourselves to the heroes living among us, including our military families."
