Senator Van de Putte tours Port of Houston

(Austin) — On Tuesday, May 6, state Senator Leticia Van de Putte (District 26, Bexar County) toured the Port of Houston (POHA).

Senator Van de Putte received a briefing from POHA staff regarding the functions and significance of the port, the economic impact and job creation benefits the Port has on the state as a whole, and the expected impact on the Port from the Panama Canal expansion, which may bring five times the number of exports in the Port of Houston in 21 years.

Senator Van de Putte took the tour with Houston Senator Sylvia Garcia.

Senator Van de Putte said "The Port of Houston contributes over $178 billion in economic activity to our state's economy. To keep our state strong, we must continue to expand and prepare the Port in order to maximize the returns from the expansion of the Panama Canal. Investing in infrastructure is critical to building a 21st century economy and improving the lives of all Texans. "I'm grateful to my sister Senator Sylvia Garcia for her leadership on this issue and commitment to a better Houston economy."
