Chair Van de Putte to Address Bexar American Legion

(San Antonio) — On Saturday, April 12, state Senator Leticia Van de Putte (District 26, Bexar County) will have the honor of addressing the Bexar County American Legion Annual Convention at American Legion Alamo Post 2, at 3518 Fredericksburg Road.

Senator Van de Putte is expected to speak around 9:15 a.m.

Senator Van de Putte serves as Chair of the Veteran Affairs and Military Installations (VAMI) Committee, and will address the Legion on the committee's efforts to keep Texas the number one state in the nation for active duty military, veterans, and their families. These efforts include 67 bills passed during the 2013 legislative session, including state constitutional amendments giving property tax exemptions to Gold Star Spouses (husbands or wives of service members who died in the line of duty) and certain disabled veterans.

She also intends to discuss the VA claims backlog, mental health services for veterans, and pro-veteran legislation that she intends to push in the 2015 session.
