Van de Putte Blasts Anti-Woman Senate Vote

(Austin) — Tonight, the Texas Senate passed House Bill 2, the omnibus abortion regulation bill. Senator Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, voted against the bill and issued the following statement in response.

"The War on Women continues, and tonight, the women of Texas lost. If this bill becomes law, women across the state, especially those living in rural areas and on low incomes, will effectively lose their constitutional right to control their own bodies and be deprived of health services. I keep begging my colleagues to relent in their assault on women's rights, but they won't let up. Too many of them don't even realize they are insulting women."

"A tremendous and terrible price will be paid if this becomes law. The State of Texas will pay in legal costs for court challenges. Most importantly, I fear that many Texas women will pay — it will cost them their freedoms, their health, and in some cases, their lives."
