Senator Van de Putte on Dept. of Motor Vehicles Board's Rejection of Sons of Confederate Veterans License Plate
Senator Leticia Van de Putte states the following on the rejection of the specialty license plate:
"I want to thank the nine members of the Department of Motor Vehicles Board for unanimously rejecting the Sons of Confederate Veterans specialty license plate. It was simply the right thing to do, and I am relieved that the Board has come to view the situation similarly."
"The battle flag of the Army of Northern Virginia has no justifiable place in 21st century Texas, a state as diverse as it is large, as culturally unique as it is rich in history. There is no need to imprint a symbol that is so painful to a significant segment of our state's population on a license plate, and it is encouraging to know that a Governor-appointed Board in 2011 unanimously agrees."
