Diabetes is a prevailing health condition in the State of Texas. With more citizens being diagnosed with diabetes every day, it is important to spread awareness on the effects of diabetes. Blindness, as a result of diabetic eye disease, is the most prevalent long-term effect of diabetes in adults, however most Americans are not aware that diabetics should receive a eye exams. The press conference will discuss the importance of yearly comprehensive eye exams for those living with diabetes.
In honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month, Senator Van de Putte joins the Texas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association for an opportunity to spread awareness on the importance of early detection and prevention of diabetic eye disease.
