Texas Senator Leticia Van de Putte and the National Conference of State Legislatures Visit Colonial Hills After-School Program

SAN ANTONIO -- On Tuesday, December 5, Senator Leticia Van de Putte, President of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), will tour a unique after-school program operated by Colonial Hills Elementary, located at 2627 Kerrybrook Court. The Senator will be on site from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The off-campus tour is scheduled in association with the NCSL Fall Forum, held in San Antonio December 5-8, 2006. The visit will enable legislators from across the country to learn about the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) program, a federally funded program that focuses on helping children in high-need schools succeed through the use of scientifically-based practice and extended learning time. The program goals are to incorporate nutrition, science, physical education and language arts with drug and violence education.

During the site visit, participants will meet with students, staff and administrators to learn about funding for such programs. The agenda includes a description of the classes that participants will be able to visit following presentations.
