Veteran Affairs and Military Installations Committee and Base Realignment Subcommittee to hold joint-hearing in El Paso, Texas

SAN ANTONIO -- The Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, chaired by Senator Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio, and the Senate Subcommittee on Base Realignment and Closure, chaired by Senator Eliot Shapleigh of El Paso, are meeting jointly on September 26, 2006, in El Paso, Texas.

The Committees will discuss preparation for the projected growth due to the Department of Defense Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) and review the response of the Texas Military Preparedness Commission (TMPC).

The Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations welcomes public testimony on its interim charges, mainly overseas military voting, veteran and active military benefits and any dialogue on previously passed legislation related to higher education benefits and veteran employment programs.

"With our proud military history, we fully realize the magnitude of preparing our communities to successfully absorb this very substantial expansion," said Senator Van de Putte.

The hearing, which is open to the public, is scheduled at 9:00 a.m. in the lecture forum of the El Paso Community College Transmountain Campus, located at 9570 Gateway Blvd. North.
