Senator Van de Putte to serve as panelist at Pre-K Now Satellite Conference
On September 20, 2006, Senator Leticia Van de Putte will represent the State of Texas, serving as a panelist at the Pre-K now Satellite Conference. The conference, hosted by George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, will focus on effective advocacy practices in the Pre-K movement, featuring Florida, Tennessee and Texas.
The Texas segment highlights Senator Van de Putte's successful effort to make children of military families eligible to attend free, state-funded Pre-K programs in Texas. The segment will also include video footage of a military family getting their daughter ready for her first day of Pre-K and interviews from a Texas military base.
KLRN-TV will serve as one of Texas' 28 host sites for the national satellite teleconference on Wednesday, September 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. KLRN is located at 501 Broadway.
"Making the children of military service members, Guard and Reserve eligible for Pre-K is something states can provide with little difficulty in demonstration of our gratitude," said Senator Van de Putte. "The economic implications are nominal, when weighed against the educational advantages children will receive and investing in school readiness reaps life-long benefits for our citizens."
