Sen. Deuell's antifreeze legislation passes Senate
AUSTIN — Senate Bill 1301, which would require antifreeze manufacturers to add a bittering agent to their products, passed out of the Senate unanimously this week.
The Humane Society estimates that hundreds of children and thousands of animals are accidentally poisoned each year from ingesting this highly-toxic but common product due to its sweet taste and appealing color. To date, 14 other states have enacted similar legislation and SB 1301 is supported by numerous animal and child advocacy groups as well as the antifreeze industry.
This legislation will save innumerable lives and make homes across Texas safer for pets and children.
