Senator Deuell Appointed Chair of Senate Nominations Committee
AUSTIN — Senator Bob Deuell (R-Greenville) today was appointed chair of the Senate Nominations Committee by Lt. Governor David Dewhurst.
"Nominations is a huge responsibility," Sen. Deuell said. "I look forward to working closely with Governor Perry's office to make sure we have the best possible people serving on our boards and commissions."
The Senate Nominations Committee is responsible for reviewing the governor's appointments to positions in executive branch agencies across government, and making recommendations to the entire Senate for consideration of the candidates.
"Senator Deuell's career as a successful physician and community leader, combined with his wealth of policy and institutional knowledge of the Texas Senate make him a natural choice to chair the Nominations Committee," said Lt. Governor Dewhurst. "Confirming the appointees who oversee the operations of all of Texas' state agencies is one of the Senate's most important duties, and I know that Senator Deuell will lead this committee with a firm and even hand."
In addition to his new position on the Nominations Committee, Sen. Deuell will remain vice-chair of the Senate State Affairs and Health and Human Service committees. Sen. Deuell's full committee assignments are as follows:
Nominations -- Chair
Health and Human Services -- Vice-Chair
State Affairs -- Vice-Chair
"I am very pleased with my committee assignments and very grateful to Governor Dewhurst,” Deuell said. “I feel these assignments play to my strengths, and will allow me to serve the citizens of Texas and Senate District Two to the best of my abilities."
