STATEMENT BY DR. DEUELL ON THE MISINFORMATION IN THE GOVERNOR'S REMARKS
"I am disappointed that the Governor's staff has not prepared accurate information for him regarding voluntary needle exchange programs. Studies prove needle exchange programs do not increase drug use. In fact, by helping drug counselors connect with addicts, these programs can lead to decreased drug use. In addition, these voluntary programs reduce HIV and Hepatitis B and C, which will save lives and money.
"Ronald Reagan once said that 'Facts are stubborn things.' As a physician, a legislator, and a conservative, I try to look at the facts before making a decision. I look forward to sharing accurate information about needle exchange initiatives - which are legal in 49 states - with the Governor."
