Deuell Opens District Offices to Collect Hurricane Relief Donations

(Austin) - Across Senate District Two, organizations and individuals are mobilizing to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Also, State Sen. Bob Deuell (R- Greenville) has opened his district offices to collect donations. Any donations received through Sen. Deuell's offices will be distributed to local charities assisting in relief efforts. For more information, please contact any of Sen. Deuell's offices.

Citizens in Dallas, Rockwall and Kaufman Counties can contact the Mesquite District office at (972) 279-1800. Those in Fannin, Delta, Hunt, Hopkins, Rains, Van Zandt and Smith Counties can contact the Greenville District office at (903) 450-9797. Also, any constituent may call the Capitol office in Austin at (512) 463-0102.


International Spirit of Truth (ISOT) Disaster Response Team, a division of Operation Compassion, will be leaving the Dallas/Fort Worth Area within the next ten days to respond to the needs of Hurricane Katrina victims on the Gulf Coast.

The Team plans to bring in clean-up and on-site feeding crews to help the victims. They will be arriving with their 40' stainless steel portable kitchen and generators. Items needed are tools, generators, pressure washers, bottled water, food, new blankets and bedding.

Sachse First United Methodist Church has offered its services as a collection point for the Dallas Area Red Cross for items to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The church is located at 1520 Blackburn Road and items can be placed in the church's Family Life Center located directly behind the main building from 8:30 in the morning until 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday of this week and Tuesday through Friday of the week of September 5th.

The Unity Church of Sachse will be accepting donations to be delivered to The Salvation Army. The request is for Bottled Water, Canned Goods, Blankets and non-perishable items. Any Donation you can give will be appreciated. Please e-mail and arrangements will be made to accept your donation.


A clothing drive for the New Orleans hurricane victims coming to Royse City is now being centered at First Baptist Church, Royse City. Items needed are clean clothing, shoes, bedding, underwear, socks, etc. Items will be collected at the fellowship hall at First Baptist on Friday or Saturday.

There are currently over 120 people in Rockwall hotels today from Louisiana in desperate need of help. This number is expected to grow to over 200 by the end of this weekend. The hotels are asking Helping Hands for food and water donations to help reduce the cost of survival for these poor people. The Helping Hands food bank is almost empty of food and water and is no position to provide assistance.

Donations are also being taken at Republican Headquarters this Saturday between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. All donations will then be taken over to Helping Hands for disposition.


First Baptist Church, Canton is headquarters for relief organization in Canton. The Ministerial Alliance is working to take care of needs. Churches will feed displaced citizens at First Baptist Church. They anticipate over 100 on Friday and Saturday.
