Deuell Receives Committee Assignments
AUSTIN - On Friday, Senator Robert F. "Bob" Deuell (R-Greenville) received his committee appointments for the 79th Legislative Session from Lt. Governor David Dewhurst.
Senator Deuell's committee appointments for the 79th Legislature are as follows:
- Health and Human Services
- Intergovernmental Relations
- Nominations - Vice Chair
Following the announcement, Senator Deuell commented on his assignments.
"I am very pleased with my committee assignments and very grateful to Governor Dewhurst," Deuell said. "I feel that, once again, I have been given assignments that play to my strengths, and will allow me to serve the citizens of Texas and Senate District Two to the best of my abilities."
Deuell was especially pleased to retain his seat on the powerful Senate Finance Committee.
"Serving on the Finance Committee will allow me to have input on every item in the budget," Deuell said. "It will also be at the forefront of the debate on public school finance reform. It is a tremendous honor for me, and will be beneficial to my constituents in SD2."
In addition, Deuell will be serving his second session as Vice-Chair of the Senate Nominations Committee.
"Nominations is a huge responsibility," Deuell said. "I look forward to working closely with Governor Perry's office to make sure we have the best possible people serving on our boards and commissions."
The appointments process for boards and commissions, by virtue of the procedure prescribed in the Texas Constitution, requires the nomination of a person by the Governor be confirmed by the Texas Senate.
Deuell also commented on his appointment to the Health and Human Services Committee.
"As a practicing family doctor, I believe I bring a unique perspective to the committee," Deuell said. "I believe my background and experience allows me to see how proposed health legislation could actually affect people and their families. I have enjoyed my time on the committee and look forward to further service this session."
Deuell was also appointed to the Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations.
