A Letter from Sen. Deuell on Redistricting
The following letter is an appeal to the residents of Senate District Two to contact my office to express their thoughts and opinions concerning congressional redistricting and the upcoming special session.
To my constituents:
I am sure you are aware by now that the Texas Legislature will go into special session on June 30. While Governor Perry has said that a variety of issues could be debated, the primary focus of this session will be congressional redistricting.
The current congressional map was drawn in federal court following the 77th Legislature's failure to produce a plan during session. During the recently completed 78th session, a congressional redistricting plan was proposed, but failed to make it out of the Texas House of Representatives.
In an effort to get as much public input as possible, I am hoping you will contact my office to give me your opinions concerning this issue. Please contact any of my offices to express your thoughts and concerns regarding the makeup of Texas Congressional districts. If you submit your comments in writing, I will be happy to submit them to the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence, which will review redistricting plans. You may send your correspondence to my Capitol office at: P.O. Box 12068, Austin, Texas 78711.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Senator Bob Deuell
