Senate Passes Legislation to Create Rockwall County Court at Law
AUSTIN -- On Thursday, May 1st, the Texas State Senate passed legislation that will allow for the creation for a county court at law in Rockwall County.
The legislation, Senate Bill 1552 by Senate Jurisprudence Committee Chairman Robert Duncan (R-Lubbock), is an omnibus court creation bill which authorizes new courts in several Texas counties. The bill contains the same language found in Senate Bill 670 by Senator Bob Deuell (R-Greenville) and House Bill 738 by State Representative Jodie Laubenberg (R-Parker), both of which authorized the creation of the new court.
Deuell said he is happy with the progress so far, and looks forward to the final passage of the bill.
"I was very thankful to work with Chairman Duncan to ensure Rockwall County was included in the legislation," Deuell said. "Because of the explosive growth of Rockwall County, it is obvious this court is needed to handle the existing and forecasted case loads."
Senate Bill 1552 will now be sent to the Texas House of Representatives for consideration.
