Senator Uresti Works to Lure Jobs in California Sriracha Factory
Today, Senator Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio) traveled to California to tour Huy Fong Foods, Inc. headquarters and plant in Irwindale, CA with owner David Tran. Huy Fong Foods, the manufacturer of the popular hot sauce "Sriracha", is in the midst of disagreements with the City of Irwindale over their plant.
"My goal is to communicate that Texas certainly welcomes the opportunity to work with Mr. Tran, or any business for that matter, that is considering an expansion of their operations. That message was delivered effectively and succinctly by the Texas delegation. Uresti said.
"My senate district is home to the Toyota Manufacturing plant, Zachry Construction Corporation offices, and more recently, both Halliburton and Baker Hughes have opened new headquarters. Businesses locate here because we enjoy wide-open spaces, a willing and able work force, and a vibrant community with an affordable cost of living. Uresti said.
"With the agricultural resources to our South, our development-ready land, and a workforce hungry for additional jobs, everything I saw on my tour today spoke volumes to the fact that an operation like Huy Fong Foods will prosper in San Antonio. Our message is clear--Texas is a great place to live, work and play, so bring your hot sauce and come on over!" Uresti said.
Following the tour today, the delegation also including Rep. Jason Villalba, committed to continuing dialogue regarding expansion in San Antonio and Texas.
Sen. Uresti represents Senate District 19, which covers more than 35,000 square miles and contains all or part of 17 counties, two international ports of entry, ten state parks, 61 school districts, 2700 miles of highways, and more than 23,000 producing oil and gas wells. The district is larger than 12 states and 82 Nations, and contains over half of the Texas-Mexico border.
