Ellis Statement on Passing of Senator Carlos Truan
First Hispanic Dean of the Senate served 34 years in the legislature
(Austin, Texas)—Senator Rodney Ellis (D-Houston) today released the following statement on the passing of former Texas State Senator Carlos Truan (D-Corpus Christi):
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a dear friend and former colleague, Senator Carlos Truan. Carlos was a wonderful friend, husband, father and grandfather, and our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Elvira, his children and his entire extended family during this time of deep grief and sorrow.
"Carlos was a fantastic and dedicated public servant who truly fought for those who did not have a voice in Austin. He was a powerful champion for working families and our school children. He was certainly never afraid to tell you where he stood and his straightforward, no nonsense style and charm made him a tremendous advocate for the people.
"From the Killer Bees to his time as Dean of the Senate, Carlos leaves a tremendous legacy of love, friendship, caring, dedication and success and he will be sorely missed."
