Senator Rodney Ellis Responds to DOJ Letter to Texas SOS on Voter ID Law
The U.S. Department of Justice has sent a letter to the Texas Secretary of State asking for additional information on race and ethnicity of voters who will undoubtedly be impacted by the new Texas Voter ID law. Senator Ellis issues the following statement:
"I am pleased that the Department of Justice is asking the probative questions which indicates they suspect the real issue is voter suppression. I am staying in contact with officials at the DOJ, and I will continue to monitor the state's responses to DOJ's requests for information. The state must be forthright regarding voter ID's impact on racial and ethnic minorities, whom I believe were targets of the ill-conceived and unnecessary legislation."
