State Senator Rodney Ellis Responds to TCEQ's Decision on Strict E. Coli Limits
Today, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) voted to maintain the currently allowable levels of E. coli bacteria in the state's recreational waters, despite a controversial recommendation from TCEQ staff to relax the standard. Senator Rodney Ellis releases the following statement:
"I commend the TCEQ for keeping the stricter E. coli water standards in place. In a letter to the Commissioners, I made clear that weakening the water pollution standards would have unnecessarily placed at risk the health of all Texans who recreate on our state's waterways. Maintaining this strong environmental protection will help to guard Texas' public health."
