NELSON RENEWS CALL TO ABOLISH PAROLE, PUT SEX OFFENDERS AWAY FOR LIFE

AUSTIN - State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, has requested that hearings be set for her bills which would abolish parole for violent criminals and mandate life sentences for repeat sex offenders.

"Texans are fed up with shootings in our streets, robberies on our sidewalks, and sexual assaults on our children. We are fed up with living behind bars while violent criminals run free," Nelson said.

Senator Nelson has requested hearings in the Senate Criminal Justice Committee for Senate Bills 36 and 38. Nelson's SB 36 abolishes parole for so-called "3g offenders". 3g offenses include murder, rape, assault, child molesting, robbery, arson, and kidnapping. SB 38 establishes a life sentence with no chance of parole for repeat sex offenders.

"When I read a letter-to-the-editor from a little girl who is terrified that a child molester like Larry McQuay was released two years early or when a young teacher in my district tells how she was brutally attacked, stuffed in the trunk of a car, driven around for hours, dumped out and left to die, I know we need these bills," Nelson commented. "Texas must abolish parole for all violent criminals and put sex offenders away for life."
