HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVE STATE GRANTS FOR WOMEN'S HEALTH
AUSTIN — Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, announced today that state grants have been awarded to 51 health care providers with 215 clinic sites across the state to provide women's health services through Texas' newly expanded Primary Care Health Care program.
"This is an important step in our mission to connect more Texas women to important health services," said Senator Nelson, Chairman of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. "I am pleased to see the additional funding we approved this session being put into action on behalf of Texas women, who will have greater access to wellness checks, cancer screenings and other important services because of these grants."
DSHS awarded $43.7 million in one-year grant contracts. The grants are part of a $100 million funding increase in the current biennium's budget to the Primary Health Care program, which will help to serve an additional 170,000 Texas women over the next two years. As chair of the budget workgroup which crafted the Texas health and human services budget, Senator Nelson led the effort to fully fund the state's capacity to provide women's health services.
SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Denton and Tarrant counties. She is chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee and the highest ranking Republican in the Texas Senate.
