SB 7 REDESIGNING MEDICAID LONG-TERM CARE PASSES HOUSE

AUSTIN — The Texas House of Representatives today passed SB 7 by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, to redesign the Medicaid long-term care system so that seniors and individuals with disabilities receive services in a coordinated manner through managed care. It also sets up advisory committees at the Health and Human Services Commission to aid in the transition.

"This legislation will ensure the state is getting the most out of our Medicaid dollars and greatly improve efficiency and quality in our long-term care system," said Senator Nelson. "SB 7 will reduce overall costs in the system while providing care to almost 12,000 Texans currently receiving no services at all. It will help to ensure we can continue providing quality services to seniors and Texans with disabilities, who are living longer, more productive lives than ever before."

The bill will now return to the Senate where differences between the House and Senate versions will be discussed and agreed upon before being sent to the Governor for his signature.

SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties. She is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services.
