STATEMENT ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF SB 149
AUSTIN — Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, issued the following statement regarding the Texas House of Representatives passing to third reading SB 149 to strengthen governance at the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT):
"SB 149 ensures the institute will operate with the upmost accountability and transparency. More importantly, it will allow us to resume our historic effort to fight cancer. The transgressions that have occurred at CPRIT are inexcusable and will never be tolerated again. Setting up this institute is one of the most important things the Legislature has ever done, and I am looking forward to its bright future," said Senator Nelson."
After being finally passed on third reading by the House, the bill will return to the Senate where differences between the House and Senate versions will be discussed and agreed upon before being sent to the Governor for his signature.
SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties. She is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services.
