HOUSE PASSES SB 423 CREATING ALTERNATE RESPONSE FOR CPS CASES
AUSTIN — The Texas House of Representatives today passed SB 423 by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, to authorize Child Protective Services to create an alternative response system for low-risk cases in which there is no immediate danger to the child.
"We should always look for ways to preserve families that can be healed through constructive intervention. By creating a less adversarial response for low-risk cases, we can ensure children are protected while also helping to educate and inform parents," said Senator Nelson. "SB 423 gives Child Protective Services an opportunity to focus on positive steps that can be taken to protect children and keep families together."
The bill, which reflects an interim report recommendation of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, now goes to the governor's desk for his signature.
SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties. She is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services.
