SENATE PASSES BILL ADDRESSING MEDICATION FOR FOSTER CHILDREN
AUSTIN — The Texas Senate today unanimously passed HB 915, sponsored by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, to ensure the use of psychotropic medications by foster children is appropriate, necessary and closely monitored.
"Today the Senate has taken another step forward as we work to address the issue of psychotropic medication for children in foster care," said Senator Nelson. "This bill will help to ensure these children only receive these medications when appropriate, and that it not the first or only option considered."
The bill, which was originally authored by Texas State Representative Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, now returns to the House of Representatives where changes between the House and Senate versions will be discussed and agreed upon before being sent to the Governor for his signature.
SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties. She is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services.
