SENATOR NELSON RECOGNIZED BY FAST GROWTH SCHOOL COALITION
AUSTIN —Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, was awarded the Legislator Appreciation Award last night by the Fast Growth School Coalition, an organization of Texas school districts that advocates for districts struggling to keep up with the demands of enrollment growth.
"It is a true honor to be recognized by the Fast Growth School Coalition, and I am proud to represent many of their members," said Senator Nelson, whose district includes nine fast-growth school districts. "It is important that we recognize the unique challenges from rapid enrollment growth as our state's population continues to grow."
The Fast Growth School Coalition was founded in 1996 and today there are approximately 100 districts that meet the qualifications for membership. School districts in the coalition account for more than 83 percent of enrollment growth in Texas in the last five years. The group honored Senator Nelson for her efforts to ensure that fast-growth school districts in Texas have the instructional facilities necessary to meet the needs of their growing student bodies.
"When Texas first recognized the unique needs of the fast-growing school districts, Senator Jane Nelson stepped up to advocate for us," said Michelle Smith, executive director of the Fast Growth School Coalition. "She is significantly responsible for the state's support of fast-growing districts, from the Rio Grande Valley to the Metroplex."
SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties. She is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services.
