LEGISLATION TO ENHANCE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION APPROVED
AUSTIN —The Senate Committee on State Affairs today unanimously approved SB 948 by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, to expand the authority of the Denton County Transportation Authority.
"This bill gives the Denton County Transportation Authority the authority it needs to expand its current service within Denton County and integrate with other local entities to increase public transportation options within the Metroplex," said Senator Nelson. "These are tools available to other transit agencies and will help the Denton County Transportation Authority better meet the transportation needs of our community."
Specifically, SB 948 increases representation on the Denton County Transportation Authority board of directors, clarifies contracting issues, and authorizes the Denton County Transportation Authority to join a Local Government Corporation. The bill now moves to the full Senate for further consideration.
SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties. She is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services.
