SENATE COMMITTEE PASSES CHILD CREDIT PROTECTION BILL

AUSTIN — The Senate Committee on Business and Commerce today unanimously passed SB 60 by Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Flower Mound, to better protect children from identity theft by allowing parents to place a freeze on their child's credit history.

"This legislation allows parents to place a 'Do Not Enter' sign on their child's credit record, thereby protecting young Texans from the devastating impact of identity theft," said Senator Nelson.

The bill, which now moves to the full Senate for further consideration:

In the past three years, 57,000 cases of child identity theft have been reported to the Federal Trade Commission.

SENATOR JANE NELSON represents District 12, including portions of Tarrant and Denton Counties. She is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services.
