SENATOR NELSON RECEIVES AWARD FROM CHILD ADVOCACY GROUP
-- Texans Care for Children, an organization dedicated to the well being of Texas children, today presented its Founder's Award to Texas State Senator Jane Nelson, R-Lewisville, at a reception at the Belo Mansion in Dallas.
The organization recognized Senator Nelson's work this session on Senate Bill 6, the omnibus reform bill designed to overhaul Child Protective Services in response to a series of preventable child deaths involving abused and neglected children. Additionally, Senator Nelson sponsored successful legislation aimed at improving health and nutrition in our schools, cracking down on methamphetamine use and establishing a drug-endangered child initiative to protect children who have been exposed to illegal drugs.
"This is the first time we have presented this award, and we are proud to present it to Senator Jane Nelson. She worked so hard this session on behalf of children who are abused and neglected. Additionally, she worked to change the system designed to protect those children. It was very appropriate that our inaugural founder's award go to Senator Nelson," said Susan Craven, the organization's executive director.
"It is such a tremendous honor to be recognized by a group that advocates on behalf of Texas children. Texas' most precious resource is not cotton or cattle or oil. It is the health and well-being of our children, and I appreciate the efforts of Texans Care for Children to protect our state's most precious resource," Senator Nelson said.
SENATOR JANE NELSON, R-LEWISVILLE, represents District 12, which includes parts of Tarrant and Denton counties. She is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health & Human Services.
