SEN. MIKE JACKSON HONORED BY THREE GROUPS FOR LEGISLATIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS

National Coalition for Capital, Texas Deer Association, and Empower Texans Recognize Senator Jackson for Voting Record, Legislation Passed in 82nd Legislative Session

Austin - State Senator Mike Jackson, R-La Porte, has been given three recent awards by groups acknowledging his legislative accomplishments. On August 8, he was honored at a ceremony in San Antonio by the National Coalition for Capital (NCFC) for his legacy of support for small business. Jackson was one of three Texas Legislators named a "Champion of Small Business" by NCFC for 2011.

At the ceremony, Jackson expressed his thanks to NCFC for the award."The National Coalition for Capital plays a major role in providing small businesses with much-needed access to capital to get off the ground and expand," he said. "I am a small business owner and understand the struggles and hardships that go along with it. I have been in the construction industry for many years and realize the importance of making payroll on Fridays."

"This award recognizes Senator Jackson's important work to preserve and create jobs through access to capital policy that helps Texas small businesses grow and develop," said Michael Votta, Executive Director of the NCFC. "Senator Jackson has demonstrated that he is a champion of small business, and his efforts will have an enduring positive impact on Texas."

On Friday, August 12, Senator Jackson received the "Outstanding State Senator of the 82nd Legislative Session" award from the Texas Deer Association (TDA) in recognition of his "leadership, loyalty and friendship to TDA." This is the highest honor bestowed by TDA to legislators following the legislative session.

Finally, on August 15, Empower Texans/Texans for Fiscal Responsibility named Senator Jackson a "Taxpayer Advocate," which is an award presented to legislators based on their strong rating on the most recent Fiscal Responsibility Index. Andrew Kerr, who presented the award on behalf of the organization, explained that the award is given to legislators who prove themselves to be good stewards of taxpayers' money. "It's for a job well done," said Kerr.

In accepting the award, Senator Jackson said Republicans in the state legislature "have worked hard over many, many years to develop the great business environment enjoyed today in Texas."

Mike Jackson serves as Chairman of the Senate Economic Development Committee and is a member of the Senate State Affairs, Business and Commerce, Natural Resources, and Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committees. He represents Texans in portions of Harris, Galveston, and Brazoria Counties.
