WILLIAMS FILES GOOD SAMARITAN BILL

Grants Architects and Engineers Immunity During Disasters

Austin -- Under SB 509, introduced by Sen. Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) licensed architects and engineers will be able to volunteer their time and service under government-declared disasters and be protected from liability.

"Hurricane Rita highlighted the need for this Good Samaritan legislation in Texas. These professional men and women will now be able to render their skill to state and local governments without the fear of risking their professional livelihood," said Williams.

Current law does not does not grant immunity from liability for either profession under government-declared disasters such as hurricanes, tornados, fire or other catastrophic natural or man-made events.
