Beaumont YWCA to Receive Funds

BEAUMONT --- Senator Tommy Williams announced today the Young Women's Christian Association of Beaumont was awarded a $30,000 Preservation Trust Fund Grant to assist the YWCA in its effort to preserve the valuable landmark.

"This Texas Preservation Trust Fund award will help preserve an important Beaumont landmark, and is a great example of our state's effort to preserve endangered, historic buildings," said Williams.

The award is through the Texas Preservation Trust Fund, a program of the Texas Historical Commission. The Beaumont YWCA was one of 22 preservation projects chosen from 65 applicants throughout the State of Texas.

The preservation fund is an interest-earning pool of public and private monies, and earned interest and designated gifts are distributed as matching grants. Approximately $400,000 is being awarded to the twenty-two 2006 recipient projects.

Senator Williams represents Senate District 4 covering all or portions of Jefferson, Orange, Chambers, Liberty, Harris and Montgomery Counties. Williams serves as Vice Chairman of the State Affairs Committee and as a member of the Senate Criminal Justice, Education and Finance committees
